Wyndham Clark won the 2023 U.S. Open, defeating Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Clark, who had only one PGA Tour victory to his name, shot an even-par 70 in the final round to finish at 10 under par. McIlroy shot the same score, but had a bogey on the 14th hole that cost him the tournament. Clark and McIlroy were tied for the lead after the front nine, but Clark made a key birdie on the 10th hole to take the lead. He held on to the lead for the rest of the round, despite some nervous moments on the back nine. It was Clark’s first major championship victory. McIlroy, who was looking for his fifth major title, finished as the runner-up for the third time in his career.
