0 0

The 109th Tour de France 2023 began in Bilbao, Spain, on Friday with a 180km flat stage. The stage was won by Magnus Cort Nielsen of EF Education-EasyPost, who broke away from the peloton with 12km to go and held on to take the first yellow jersey of the race.

The stage started off relatively calm, with the peloton staying together for the first few kilometers. However, the pace picked up as the riders approached the first climb of the day, the Alto de San Miguel. A group of riders broke away from the peloton on the climb, including Cort Nielsen, and they managed to maintain a lead of around 30 seconds as they headed into the final 50km of the stage.

Cort Nielsen attacked again with 12km to go and he was able to stay away from the chasing group to take the stage win. He was followed by Anthony Perez of Cofidis and Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck in second and third place respectively.
