A submersible that was carrying five people on a dive to the Titanic wreck has gone missing. The sub, called Limiting Factor, was operated by Triton Submarines and was carrying a crew of three and two tourists. The sub was last seen on the surface on June 17, and it has not been heard from since.
James Cameron, the director of the film Titanic, has spoken out about the missing sub. Cameron is a deep-sea explorer and has made numerous dives to the Titanic wreck. He said that he was “struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself” to the disappearance of the sub.
Cameron said that diving to the Titanic wreck is a “mature art” and that there are many risks involved. He said that the sub that went missing was “not a very sophisticated vehicle” and that it was “not designed for long-duration dives.”
Cameron said that he hopes that the sub is found and that the crew is rescued. He said that the disappearance of the sub is a “tragic reminder” of the dangers of deep-sea diving.
